We made our way back to Thief River Falls this month, the first time since August. We were happy to be able to help adults and children alike with their oral health. We will be returning in December to this site and already have many appointments scheduled! See you in a couple of months!
This fall we were able to partner with many Head Start sites to see children who had not yet completed their necessary dental exam for the year. We traveled to Cass County, McIntosh, Kelliher, Laporte and Blackduck Head Starts to offer our services. Many took advantage of signing up to be seen by one of the two dentists who journeyed with us on these trips. Hopefully this is something we will be able to offer in the future for the familes of children who are participating in the Head Start program!
Kelliher Public School was very welcoming the second year we set up our portable dental unit to see children in all grades. We had a wide range of ages that we were able to educate about the importance of good dental hygiene. Our Community Based Oral Health Program will be coming back next year, and when we do, we hope to see that we were able to make an impact on many with our dental education!
Northern Dental Access Center has received a grant from Healthier Minnesota Community Clinic Fund which consists of a portable dental unit. A team which consists of a Dental Hygienist and a Dental Assistant will be able to perform preventative services such as cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, oral health instruction, and screening for decay and other oral health problems. Our goals include preventative services and proper referrals for the elimination of pain and disease for this under served population, as well as to provide education and increasing awareness of oral health and it's impact on overall wellness throughout our community.
