We made the short trip to Northern Elementary School in Bemidji, MN on October 28th and 29th to provide preventive care for those who qualify for services. We saw 14 children this year at Northern and were able to teach many children about the importance of maintaining good oral health!
October 2013 marked the second year we have provided preventive dental care to students at Highland Elementary School in Crookston, MN. We were very happy to see many new faces at the school and a couple of familiar ones as we set up our portable dental unit on October 22nd and 23rd in the school to clean children's teeth. We were able to provide care to 16 children total and hope to visit the school next year!
This year, Northern Dental Access Center partnered with Bi-CAP, Mahube-OTWA, and Inter-county Community Council Head Start centers to provide dental screenings for children enrolled in the program. We traveled to Blackduck, Walker, Laporte and Bagley throughout October to screen children's teeth for decay in attempts to alert parents of any need for restorative dental work. Overall, the hygienists working with our Community Based Oral Health Program screened 37 children for the Head Start sites this fall!
We visited Washington Elementary School in Crookston, MN on October 14th and 15th. We have had such a wonderful experience working with this school, staff and students alike! This year we provided preventive dental care for 17 children at the school and were able to educate many with Oral Health Education. We hope to see you all next fall!
Fall 2013 marked the third year we have been invited into the Laporte Public School to provide preventive dental care for the children. We have been so impressed with the dedication of the staff in promoting good oral hygiene to their students. We are always excited to visit your school year after year and hope to continue this partnership for many years to come. On October 7th, 8th and 9th we were able to provide care to 25 children at the school! Keep up the good work with your brushing and flossing!
Northern Dental Access Center has received a grant from Healthier Minnesota Community Clinic Fund which consists of a portable dental unit. A team which consists of a Dental Hygienist and a Dental Assistant will be able to perform preventative services such as cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, oral health instruction, and screening for decay and other oral health problems. Our goals include preventative services and proper referrals for the elimination of pain and disease for this under served population, as well as to provide education and increasing awareness of oral health and it's impact on overall wellness throughout our community.
