December 2013 marked the third time we traveled to Schoolcraft Learning Community to provide preventive dental care to students. We have had a great partnership with this school and a very dedicated staff who provides us much support while we are on-site. We were able to see 13 children this fall with our portable dental equipment set up in the orchestra room, as we do each year. Thank you, Schoolcraft, we look forward to seeing you again next year!
Because we decided to travel to Warren, MN this December to provide preventive dental care for students at Warren-Alvarado-Oslo Schools, we knew that weather could become an obstacle for us... and we were RIGHT! We were able to get to Warren and begin seeing children on December 2nd until pending blizzard conditions forced us to close up shop and head back to Bemidji. A HUGE thank you to the staff at WAO Schools as they have been so flexible and excellent in communicating with us throughout this month! We will be back on January 15th to finish seeing the remaining 9 children who are eligible for our services! See you soon!
Red Lake County Central Schools welcomed our program into their district this fall. We were able to see 16 children for preventive dental care at the school this fall and hope to return next fall to reach many more that are in need of care and qualify for our services! Unfortunately, do to the low response from parents who have children that attend the RLCC High School, we were unable to make a trip there this fall. Perhaps next year!
2013 marked the first year of our partnership with Northland Community Schools in Remer, MN. We traveled to the school in November and were able to see a total of 34 children while we were on-site at the school for four days! Thank you to the very dedicated staff in helping to educate the students and parents regarding the importance of good oral health. We hope to partner with you in the future to reach even more in the area with our preventive dental care.
This was our first year coming to Horace May Elementary to provide preventive dental care for the students. We saw 8 children on November 6th and spoke with many parents and teachers during conferences Tuesday and Wednesday nights to provide them with information regarding our Community Based Oral Health Program and Northern Dental Access Center. Thank you for partnering with us, Horace May! We hope to see you all next fall!
We made the short trip to Northern Elementary School in Bemidji, MN on October 28th and 29th to provide preventive care for those who qualify for services. We saw 14 children this year at Northern and were able to teach many children about the importance of maintaining good oral health!
Northern Dental Access Center has received a grant from Healthier Minnesota Community Clinic Fund which consists of a portable dental unit. A team which consists of a Dental Hygienist and a Dental Assistant will be able to perform preventative services such as cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, oral health instruction, and screening for decay and other oral health problems. Our goals include preventative services and proper referrals for the elimination of pain and disease for this under served population, as well as to provide education and increasing awareness of oral health and it's impact on overall wellness throughout our community.
