Oral Health ProgramPortable Dental Unit

Northern Dental Access Center has received a grant from Healthier Minnesota Community Clinic Fund which consists of a portable dental unit. A team which consists of a Dental Hygienist and a Dental Assistant will be able to perform preventative services such as cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, oral health instruction, and screening for decay and other oral health problems. Our goals include preventive services and proper referrals for the elimination of pain and disease for this underserved population, as well as to provide education and increasing awareness of oral health and its impact on overall wellness throughout our community.

(It will need to filled out completely to be seen for our preventative services.)

February, 2012: We had a very busy month in January and there was no slowing down when February rolled around! We were able to visit JW Smith Elementary at the end of January to provide Oral Health Education to all of the children in the school. We then came back into the school beginning on February 6th and stayed for over a week so we could see all of the kids that signed up to get their teeth screened and cleaned! We were very happy to see you all and we are glad that you all knew a lot about brushing and eating healthy foods to keep your mouth and body healthy!

January, 2012: We were very excited to be able to travel to the Kelliher school and see more children with our portable dental unit! Thank you for letting us come back into your school for the second time in the 2011-2012 school year. We look forward to seeing you all next fall, so be sure to watch for our forms coming out at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year!

Kelliher School

January, 2012: After visiting Blackduck school in December to provide Oral Health Education to the K-6th grade students, we came back on January 10th, 2012 to begin seeing patients for preventative services! We have been so excited that all of the students are happy to come and get their teeth cleaned by either Katie or Jen! Thank you to nurse Becky for letting us share her room for the few weeks we were in the school providing cleanings for many, many children! We will be back next year and would love to visit you all again to see how well you have taken care of your teeth!

Blackduck School

November, 2011: As a team, we were able to help educate the students from Pre-K all the way through 6th grade at Northome Elementary on November 8th! Thanks to all of the teachers for opening their classrooms for our presentation about the importance of brushing your teeth, the truth about soda and sugary foods and eating healthy. We enjoyed our time in your school and will see many of you soon for screenings and cleanings!

Laporte Trip

October, 2011: We traveled to Kelliher to provide preventative services to children in the school. The team was here from October 24th through the 26th. We were able to see 21 students to clean their teeth and teach them about good brushing habits. We anticipate coming back to the school this year to provide Oral Health Education to all of the students and their teachers. The team looks forward to seeing all of the kids in the Kelliher School soon!

Laporte Trip

October, 2011: Our first stop this fall was to the Laporte school! We were on site at the school from October 3rd-7th and enjoyed working with the children to educate them about oral health and the importance of brushing and visiting the dentist. All of the staff at Laporte were very welcoming and accommodating to make this experience spectacular!
