One of our first ventures out into a community site (not including schools) was the Beltrami WIC clinic. We were able to help many children get their teeth cleaned (a lot of whom had never been to a dentist before) and educate their mom and dad about the importance of getting their child to the dentist every six months. It is recommended by the American Dental Association that a child visits a dentist as soon as his or her first tooth erupts, but at least no later than their first birthday. This will help get the child comfortable with the dentist and will give the parents more education about home care for the child's teeth. We were thrilled with our experience in the Beltrami County WIC clinic and we are hoping to appear in more WIC clinics soon!
